Darrell Walker, a 6-foot guard who last played
at Eastern Washington University in 1998-99, has enrolled at
Seattle Pacific University and will play basketball next season
for the Falcons. Walker, a Marysville resident and 1994
Marysville-Pilchuck High School graduate, becomes the third
transfer from an NCAA Division I program who has committed to SPU
for 2000-01. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Walker played in all 27 games--starting
four--for Eastern as a junior. He averaged 4.3 points and 1.6
assists in 12.4 minutes per game. He had been a walk-on redshirt
for the Eagles the previous season. Walker played two seasons for
his father, Larry Walker, at Everett Community College after
graduating from high school. At Everett CC, he was a first team
all-NWAACC selection as both a freshman and sophomore, twice
leading the league in assists and averaging 18 points in his
second season.
Walker joins Jesse Keely and Eric Sandrin, both
from the University of Portland, as the Falcons' crop of D-I
transfers. Keely enrolled at SPU in winter quarter and Sandrin
accepted a scholarship last week.
Seattle Pacific, under Coach Ken Bone (10th
year), is coming off the most successful season in program
history, finishing 27-5, winning the West Region and advancing to
the semifinal round of the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. The
Falcons, members of the Pacific West Conference, lost six seniors,
including four starters. |
