Tom
Box, Athletic Director
Now in his ninth year as athletic director, Tom
Box seeks to ensure Seattle Pacific Universitys rich
tradition of excellence well into the 21st Century. Box began his
duties in 1998 after serving as Seattle Pacifics director of
development for nine years. He was instrumental in the formation
of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, in which the Falcons
joined nine other NCAA Division II schools in 2001. Box recently
completed a three-year term on the NCAA Division II Womens
Rowing Championship Committee.
In his previous post, Box managed the
development staff and was responsible for the $1.2 million annual
fund, as well as researching, cultivating and soliciting new
donors. Initially, he came to SPU in 1980 as director of
management and budget. After serving as V.P. for operations and
finance at a California advertising agency, he returned to the
university in 1989. His background in athletics includes having
lettered in basketball at Californias Biola University.
Tom and his wife, Janice, have two grown sons
and a daughter. Amanda, was a member of the Falcons rowing team
before graduating from SPU, and their oldest son, Scott, played
baseball at Oregons George Fox College. Brad is a recent
graduate of Seattle Pacific. The family resides in the Queen Anne
neighborhood which surrounds the SPU campus. |
