Tom BoxTom Box, Athletic Director

Now in his ninth year as athletic director, Tom Box seeks to ensure Seattle Pacific University’s rich tradition of excellence well into the 21st Century. Box began his duties in 1998 after serving as Seattle Pacific’s director of development for nine years. He was instrumental in the formation of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, in which the Falcons joined nine other NCAA Division II schools in 2001. Box recently completed a three-year term on the NCAA Division II Women’s Rowing Championship Committee.

In his previous post, Box managed the development staff and was responsible for the $1.2 million annual fund, as well as researching, cultivating and soliciting new donors. Initially, he came to SPU in 1980 as director of management and budget. After serving as V.P. for operations and finance at a California advertising agency, he returned to the university in 1989. His background in athletics includes having lettered in basketball at California’s Biola University.

Tom and his wife, Janice, have two grown sons and a daughter. Amanda, was a member of the Falcons rowing team before graduating from SPU, and their oldest son, Scott, played baseball at Oregon’s George Fox College. Brad is a recent graduate of Seattle Pacific. The family resides in the Queen Anne neighborhood which surrounds the SPU campus.
