Seattle Pacific University maintains licensing agreements with a number of vendors to provide SPU students, faculty and staff reliable software at better-than-academically-discounted prices. Participants are required to understand and abide by the copyright/licensing provisions of each manufacturer.

We currently have the following software available for student use and installation on personally owned computers. Faculty and staff members are also granted "work-at-home rights" for this same software to be installed on a personally owned computer for business related purposes.
  • Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010
  • Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 Standard
  • Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
  • Microsoft Windows 8 Pro

Microsoft also provides student access Visual Studio 2008 and other development software through the DreamSpark program. Please see DreamSpark for more information.

Please be aware that any Microsoft software obtained from Seattle Pacific University is subject to Microsoft Volume Licensing Policies and all conditions set forth by Microsoft. See Microsoft Campus License for specific conditions about using Microsoft software on SPU's campus.

Additional software required for some courses is available through other campus sources. Please check with your instructor for more information.

Obtaining Software Media from CIS
Faculty, Staff, and Students wishing to use these programs on their personally-owned computer systems may purchase one copy of each software suite's installation media disks by presenting their SPU ID card and paying in cash at the CIS Help Desk. You may also download the installation files for some titles for free from the SPU Download Center.

A Special Note for Operating Systems
For those of you purchasing Windows 7 installation media disks, please check to make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements before you install your new operating system. If you are upgrading to Windows 7, we recommend reformatting your computer’s hard drive to do a “clean” installation of Windows 7 for best results. Also, be advised that whichever operating system you choose, you should always have a backup of your data on an external source before installing or upgrading. If you have any questions, please contact us! We're happy to help.

Other Software Requests
Faculty and staff should contact the CIS HelpDesk prior to installing personal or specialized software on University computer systems. Students may install software on their own personal computers at their own discretion, however, are reminded that they are responsible to ensure compliance with copyright law. Violation of a manufacturer's license agreement may result in severe penalties.

Academic labs are supported and maintained by their respective academic lab managers. For specific software requests please speak with the lab manager or contact the CIS HelpDesk for classroom requests.
