Why Can't I Access Banner?
Periodically the Banner Information System is down for system backups and system upgrades. Access during these occurrences is unavailable. System backups occur Sunday evenings from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. System upgrades occur less regularly and their times are published in the Banner Information System web pages.
Entered Correctly in Banner?
For students, staff and faculty, who are attempting to log in for the first time, failure to access the system occasionally occurs when a personal profile is not established, or in imcomplete in the system. To verify that a personal profile exists, contact Student Academic Services (sasinfo@spu.edu 206-281-2032) (for students) or the Office of Human Resources 206-281-2809 (for employees).
Banner User ID or PIN Problems
If an error message occurs, such as "Authorization Failure - Invalid User ID or PIN," verify that the entries for the Banner User ID and PIN are accurate. If you have forgotten your PIN, you may reset your PIN by answering your Banner security question. At the main log in screen, enter your Banner User ID and click the "Forgot PIN" button. You will then be prompted with your predefined security question. Answer the question correctly and you'll be given access to your account and prompted to create a new PIN.
If you have attempted to access the Banner Information System many times with an incorrect PIN, the system will lock your Banner access for security reasons. You will need to submit a request to manually have your access unlocked.
If you haven't defined a security question, or have forgotten your answer, you will also need to manually request assistance.
In either of these instances, students should contact Student Academic Services at the link listed above for assistance. Faculty and staff need to contact the Office of Human Resources.
Browser Problems
The Banner Information System uses SSL security. Some older browsers do not support this technology. If you consistently have problems accessing Banner you should check to see what version of browser you are using. Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 (or later) and Netscape Navigator 4.1 (or later) are required to connect to Banner. Older versions of the AOL browser are known to have problems. If you are unsure, it's recommended that you download and configure the most recent version of the browser you use.
