An email client is software that is capable of communicating with an email server. Our primary email client with the most everyday users is Webmail. This client is
available
to any computer with an Internet connection and a web browser and requires no configuration by you. If Webmail does not offer all the features you prefer, Microsoft Outlook 2003/2007 is our second recommended email client software. It must be installed and configured by you to talk to our email server. Our
recommended
configurations will allow one configuration that works both on- and off-campus.
Below (icons) is a list of the recommended email client software solutions you may use to access your SPU email. Whether you are on- or off-campus, we provide step-by-step instructions on how to set up your account.
These clients can be configured in different ways and several configurations will work with our servers. Other configurations are not supported beyond the documentation found here. They may work depending on your role with the university (faculty, staff or student), current location (on- or off-campus), and current software versions.
The most common email configuration methods have been documented here. SPU does not take responsibility for each individual's software application that is used to check their SPU email account. For email settings
related
to IMAP or SMTP, please see Email Advanced Features.
Many computer users use email applications such as Outlook to check multiple accounts. Settings for these email accounts may conflict with SPU email settings. Following instuctions from other email providers may break your access to SPU until corrected. We can support configuration for SPU accounts but are not able to troubleshoot other email configurations.
There are many different version of Microsoft Outlook software (Outlook Express, Outlook 2000 or XP, etc.). These instructions require Outlook 2003 (which is part of Office 2003) or Outlook 2007 (which is part of Office 2007) with Office and Windows service packs installed.
