How To
Banner User ID and PIN
SPU Username and Password
A person's Banner User ID is a unique, 9-digit,
university-issued ID number.
The Banner PIN is a six digit access code that
pairs with the User ID to provide access to personal
Banner information. The PIN is originally set
to the person's date-of-birth (MMDDYY format)
and should be reset immediately upon Banner access.
In the event that a Banner PIN is forgotten, access
to the system may be obtained by answering your
confidential security question. For information
about changing a known PIN, or resetting a forgotten
one, please see the PIN
and Password page.
An SPU Username (you@spu.edu) is automatically
generated within Banner for most* students and
employees of SPU. This information is reported
for each user via the Banner Computer Resources
menu. Read more about this important interface
by going to the Computer
Resources Menu page.
As the central authority, Banner is the
place to manage the SPU Username and password. For example, to reset a forgotten password,
select the reset password option from within the
Banner Computer Resources menu. Additional details
are provided on the PIN
and Password page.
Common Problems
The SPU Username and Password controls access to many
different campus resources, including: email, Blackboard,
SPU Download Center, Netstore, network login (Cisco
Clean Access), Webspace, Departmental Shares, all desktop/office/lab
computers. Changing this one password will affect
access to all of these resources.
* In some instances, accounts or resources for non-matriculated
students, continuing education, and temporary or affiliate
employees are not automatically generated. See
the "Exceptions to Automatic Resource Creation"
section on the Computer
Resources Menu help page for details.
Most central campus resources are managed from within
the Banner Information System. But there are some exceptions:
ePortfolio; eRecruiting; OnLine Jobs. Accounts to manage
these resources are maintained outside of Banner. For
details, see the specific technologies in question on the Banner & Online
Services page.
The CIS HelpDesk can provide
assistance with your UserID and SPU Username issues.
Please contact us if the online tools don't solve your
problem. CIS can't view your current password or PIN,
