Jeffrey B. Van Duzer was appointed provost at Seattle Pacific University in February 2013. As provost, he has responsibility for all aspects of the University that influence the student experience. This includes academic programs (six colleges and schools, 62 majors, and 39 graduate programs), student life, residence life, career services, athletics, university ministries, student academic services, and study abroad programs.

Meet Jeff Van Duzer
Before becoming provost, Dr. Van Duzer served as dean of the SPU School of Business and Economics, and as professor of business ethics and business law. Under his leadership, the School opened its Center for Integrity in Business, launched the annual Social Venture Plan Competition, began an innovative new graduate program focused on social and sustainable business, secured its largest-ever gift, and grew its faculty.
During his tenure as dean, Dr. Van Duzer taught courses on the legal environment of business, business ethics, and spirituality of business. He also published a number of articles in academic and popular journals, and a book exploring the theology of business, Why Business Matters to God (IVP Academic, 2010). He was a frequent speaker on this and other topics. In his last several years as dean, he was frequently called on to speak to faculty and students at other universities, including the University of Minnesota, the University of Michigan, Harvard Business School, Yale School of Management, University of North Carolina, Duke University, University of Virginia, Calvin College, and Eastern University.
Prior to his tenure at SPU, Dr. Van Duzer was a partner with the international law firm of Davis Wright Tremaine, where he practiced for more than 20 years. He concentrated his practice in commercial finance and natural resources. While at the firm, he served for nearly a decade on its Executive Committee and served as the partner in charge of its largest office.
Dr. Van Duzer earned an undergraduate degree in rhetoric in 1976 from the University of California at Berkeley, and earned his JD from Yale Law School in 1979.
