The SPU Flute Ensemble is a select group of flutists who study and perform music from the rich and varied repertoire of flute chamber music. The ensemble performs classical and contemporary works by some of the world's most renowned composers, both on and off campus, including at quarterly concerts and the highly acclaimed Sacred Sounds of Christmas, SPU's annual Advent and Christmas celebration in downtown Seattle.
As a member of the Flute Ensemble, you will be immersed in a variety of activities designed to develop technical skills, musicality, knowledge, and performance practices. A comprehensive program of flute instruction is designed to meet your individual needs and broaden your musical horizons. The Flute Ensemble is a dynamic group where students can develop ensemble and specific flute-related skills in an enjoyable and rewarding setting. Students prepare music utilizing the entire flute family — piccolo, traditional C flute, alto, and bass — and often collaborate with other musicians and ensembles.
Membership
Membership in the Flute Ensemble is by audition. If you are a musician who plays the flute or piccolo, you are invited to audition for the Flute Ensemble — whether you are a Music major, a Music minor, or a nonmajor. Auditions take place at the beginning of Autumn Quarter (see notices posted in the lobby of Crawford Music Building prior to the beginning of the quarter). A yearlong commitment is expected, and you may take the course an unlimited number of times.
