GRADUATION RELATED EVENTS
Graduation is a time of celebration for students and their families. Special ceremonies and events are scheduled to honor the senior class for their achievements. Below is a list of the annual events. Specific dates, times and locations can be found by viewing the Campus Master Calendar at http://www.spu.edu/qamastercal.asp or the commencement schedule of events at http://www.spu.edu/special/commencement/schedule.html

  • University Scholars Celebration – Scholars from every class gather to celebrate the graduating seniors and to view their completed honors projects. Open to all University Scholars students and alumni.

  • Senior Celebration – Family and friends are invited to join University Scholars students and faculty for speech presentations of their honors projects. Tickets are not required.

  • Ivy Cutting – Ivy Cutting has been part of graduation rites at Seattle Pacific University since 1922. Today, graduating students and SPU faculty members don their academic garb and assemble in Tiffany Loop beneath towering elm trees, continuing this tradition. The ceremony represents both the student's tie to Seattle Pacific and the independence that comes with graduation. Light refreshments follow for graduates, parents and faculty in Tiffany Loop.

  • Baccalaureate Service – Baccalaureate is an informal worship service shared by graduates and their families, friends and professors. Special music is included and a reception follows in Upper Gwinn Commons. There will be no processional nor will any special seating arrangement be followed. Tickets are not required, and caps and gowns are not needed.

  • Commencement – Commencement is a time-honored ceremony that recognizes the scholarship, service and Christian growth of graduating students. This is the celebratory service where students, faculty, friends, parents, relatives and staff congratulate students for their “new beginning.” Tickets (free) are required for admission for all guests and graduates. Note: Students are responsible to pick up their tickets and distribute them to their guests.
