The Faculty

The key to Seattle Pacific University's academic quality is its faculty. SPU boasts one of the most highly qualified faculties of any Christian college or university in the United States. As a student, you'll learn from professors who are known not only for the quality of their scholarship, but also for their teaching skill and genuine Christian commitment. It's a winning combination you won't find just anywhere.

Respected Scholars. There are several clear indicators of the academic credentials of Seattle Pacific's faculty:

Ninety-four percent of SPU full-time faculty members have doctorates or the terminal degrees in their fields.
SPU faculty members have received their graduate educations at such prominent institutions as Harvard, Yale, Stanford, MIT and Carnegie-Mellon.
SPU faculty members are recognized worldwide for leadership in their fields of study; publication of a wide array of studies, articles and books; and participation in academic organizations and projects across the nation and around the globe.
SPU faculty members are actively addressing real-life issues in the world. For example, SPU professors are currently researching the genetics of tumor development, leading national marriage preparation initiatives, and pursuing solutions for "green tides" in Puget Sound.

Excellent Teachers. Although they are active professional scholars, Seattle Pacific professors are committed first and foremost to teaching and nurturing students. At SPU, you'll find small classes (75 percent of classes have 30 or fewer students) taught by experienced faculty members, not graduate assistants. If you need extra help, or want to discuss class material in more detail, Seattle Pacific professors are happy to meet individually with students. Some students even collaborate with faculty on research projects, and go on to have their work published.

Committed Christians. In addition to academic credentials and a passion for teaching, all of SPU's faculty members have a personal commitment to Jesus Christ. They bring their Christian faith into the classroom in a variety of ways, always with the intent of helping you grow both academically and spiritually. Seattle Pacific professors will encourage you to consider your own faith and how it relates to the academic disciplines. And they will challenge you to discover how your faith, your intellectual pursuits and your choice of a vocation can change the world for good.
