Important First Steps to Study Abroad

If you're interested in study abroad, but not sure where to start, follow these first steps in getting the process started.

Who?
Who do you want to study abroad with--SPU professors and students?  Independently with other professors and students from around the world?

What?
What do you want to study?  Will you concentrate on major requirements or on other degree requirements?

Where?
Where do you want to go?  Is the location your primary focus for studying abroad?  Do you want to travel domestically or go overseas?  Do you prefer to study in a big city or a rural area?

When?  When will you study abroad?  At what point in your academic career would it be the least crucial to be on campus?  Are there other scheduling considerations you need to keep in mind such as family events?

Once you know the answer to these questions, you are ready to start researching the study abroad opportunities at SPU and beyond!  An additional consideration, once you have identified and received approval for a program or university of interest is:

How?  How will you finance your study abroad experience?
