Non-Affiliated Study-Abroad Programs
Students may use their state and federal financial aid (except work study), but do not receive any SPU financial aid or merit scholarships during their period abroad.
Learn more about the financial aspects of study through third-party providers or direct enrollment.
Third-Party Providers
There are many study abroad organizations and other U.S. universities that facilitate enrollment, housing, insurance, and excursions at foreign universities and U.S. campuses abroad. Transfer credit will be awarded based on an official transcript sent to SPU after program completion. Students pay tuition, fees, and room and board to the organization administering the program, not to Seattle Pacific. Review these organizations and institutions that provide study-abroad opportunities.
To receive all necessary information related to the chosen program, and provide SPU with all the information needed from you, be sure to do the following:
- Contact the organization through which you plan to study abroad for application procedures.
- Schedule an appointment with your student financial services counselor to discuss financial aid implications.
- Complete the Application for Approval to Study Abroad (PDF), and submit the completed form to Student Academic Services.
Direct Enrollment
Some students choose to enroll at a foreign university independently, without participating in any study program or using a third-party provider. These students work directly with the foreign institution to register for classes and make arrangements for their own transportation, housing, and insurance.
If you choose this option, work closely with an SPU undergraduate academic counselor and your faculty advisor to ensure that the institution is accredited and the courses you choose will transfer to SPU and fulfill requirements. Transfer credit will be awarded based on an official transcript sent to SPU after courses are completed.
