The Galapagos Islands are an archipelago and a province of Ecuador located around the equator. It’s home to about 40,000 residents, whose primary language is Spanish. The islands are all part of Ecuador's national park system.
- The Galapagos Islands are known for having a large number of “endemic” species. Many of the wildlife and plants are found on only these islands.
- The Galapagos Islands include 16 main islands, six smaller islands, and 10 rocks and islets.
- Charles Darwin, aboard the HMS Beagle, visited four of the Galapagos Islands in 1835.
- Today, the Charles Darwin Foundation is located on Santa Cruz Island in the Galapagos Islands.
- Studying on the islands will give students underwater classroom opportunities, including snorkeling and scuba diving.
