Financial Aid

Kyoto Study Abroad Trip

Application for Study Abroad

Studying abroad will enrich your campus classroom learning in countless ways — but how can you pay for it?

Good news! Your financial aid will apply to most SPU study abroad courses. To find out if your dream study abroad trip is one of them, start by talking with your SFS counselor or checking out the Student Financial Services Study Abroad pages.

You can learn more about the different aspects of study abroad financial aid by looking at the Financial Program Comparison.

There are many outside scholarships available for students who plan to study abroad. For a list of study abroad scholarship opportunities click here (and scroll down to the very bottom of the page).

Generally, financial aid is available in the following ways:

For SPU Sponsored Programs ( Faculty-Led, Parnter Programs,BestSemester and Visitor Programs)

Student costs for these programs are paid to SPU. Financial aid for these programs includes federal and state aid (except work study), as well as some SPU institutional aid (see specific programs for details). A $200 study abroad administrative fee will be charged to your student account.

Non-SPU Programs (Third Party Providers, Direct Enrollment)

Students may use their federal and state financial aid (except work study), but do not receive any SPU financial aid or merit scholarships during their period abroad. Students pay the provider for all program fees. A $400 study abroad adminstrative fee will be charged to your SPU account for quarter/semester programs or $200 for summer programs.
