Students attending European Quarter will take a 3-credit orientation course during Autumn Quarter, 2012. The first ten days of Spring Quarter, 2013 will be held on the SPU campus prior to departure for Europe. Language and culture classes will be held daily.
EUR 3000 European Quarter Orientation (3 credits)
Offered Autumn Quarter 2012
Prepares students intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, and practically for an extended program in other cultures. Gives students a general background in the basic concepts of intercultural communication, including how to make cultural comparisons, how to recognize and cope with culture shock, and how to communicate with people of another cultures. Attributes: Upper Division
EUR 3500 European Civilization (5 credits)
Prerequisite: EUR 3000. Offered in Europe. Provides a cultural investigation of Europe and an on-site practicum. This course examines contemporary Europe as part of the European Quarter abroad, with special attention to a Christian perspective on the historical growth of European cultures. The language skills acquired by students are demonstrated in intensive programs of living and travel. Attributes: Arts and Humanities B, Upper Division
EUR 4951 Europe: Ancient and Modern (5 credits)
Focuses on different topics relating to the languages and cultures of Europe. Taught in Europe only. May be repeated for credit up to 5 credits. Attributes: Upper Division
FRE 1100, 2100, 3100 (3 credits)
Elementary, intermediate, and advanced French in Paris Study Abroad program or in European Quarter. May be repeated for credit up to 5 credits.
ITA 1100 Elementary Italian (2 credits)
An introduction to Italian taught in Europe only. May be repeated for credit up to 5 credits.
