Tell me a bit about your career before you decided to come to SPU?
I worked in the biotech industry furthering clinical trials for an immunoceutical therapy to combat prostate cancer.

What influenced your decision to change your career?
I have always been interested in teaching. The decision to become certified now came from personal circumstance, incentives, and timing.

How did you learn about the Robert Noyce Scholarship Program?
I feel so fortunate that my professor mentioned the Noyce Scholarship in class. Thanks, Dr. Lumpe!

Are there concepts from your industry experience that transfer well?
My industry experience taught me that conducting good science is defined by a solid conceptual foundation, first-class ethics, and a dedication to the project. I hope to hand down these traits to my students.

In addition, my familiarity with sophisticated scientific concepts and procedures will provide real-life examples for many basic concepts in the classroom.

What has been your greatest challenge this past year?
As a mother to two young children — a 4-month-old daughter and two-year-old son — I’m juggling academic commitments, work, and home. It’s the ultimate challenge!

What are you most excited to be offering to your students?
A passion for the sciences and a shared opportunity to learn.

Any experiences are you currently looking forward to in this coming year?
Student teaching and getting a job!
