What teacher or professor has been most influential in your life?
Ajay Narayanan strongly encouraged me to apply for the Noyce Scholarship and that changed my life. I would not be here getting my degree if it were not for him.
Tell us a bit about your decision to pursue a career in math education?
I started teaching guitar lessons about 7 years ago and had some great success with that. Shortly afterwards I started tutoring math and physics at Green River Community College. I decided that being a teacher is something that I could do and would be successful with. So, when I found out that I was accepted to SPU and granted scholarships to become a teacher, the decision was easy.
Why Seattle Pacific University?
SPU offers the Noyce Scholarship and it was the Noyce Scholarship that I was interested in initially. It wasn't until after I decided to apply for the scholarship that I learned SPU was the only school that offered it in a way that fit my needs.
What has been your greatest challenge this past year?
Being single in a school full of so many beautiful women.
What are you most excited to be offering to your students?
The opportunity to be a part of something special.
Anything you would say to someone considering applying for a Noyce scholarship?
Go for it!
