2014 Medallion Award Winners

Grace and Bob Ekblad

Skagit Valley residents Bob and Gracie Ekblad received the Seattle Pacific University Alumni Medallion Award during SPU’s Homecoming weekend in January. Recipients of these awards are leaders within their chosen professions who reflect the values and ideals of Seattle Pacific, and are active in their communities.

Together, the Ekblads founded Tierra Nueva, a ministry for migrant workers, prisoners, and gang members in Washington State and Honduras. Tierra Nueva is based in Burlington, Washington. SPU Professor of Theology Kerry Dearborn, who nominated the Ekblads, says, “Bob and Gracie are wonderful examples of people who demonstrate our mission at SPU."

Bob Ekblad graduated from SPU in 1982 with a degree in history, and his wife, Gracie, graduated the same year with a degree in English. The Ekblads and Tierra Nueva were featured in SPU’s Response magazine in 2000.

Congratulations!
