Thinking of becoming a math or science teacher?

Seattle Pacific University is exploring the possibility of offering a new master’s program focused on teaching science and math. If you’re interested in switching careers and becoming a secondary teacher (grades 5-12), please read on:

WHAT:   

Master’s Degree in Teaching Math and Science, including Washington State Residency Certification

WHO:   

Professionals with STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) experience who desire to change from their current careers and become teachers

WHEN:

Beginning Summer Quarter, 2011

DEGREE LENGTH:

Five (5) full-time academic quarters (summer through summer) 

    

BACKGROUND:

Seattle Pacific University is partnering with the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program and the National Science Foundation to explore the possibility of offering a Master’s Degree in Teaching Math and Science. The Noyce Program seeks to encourage talented science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professionals to become secondary teachers (grades 5-12) in math and science.

FINANCIAL AID: For qualified candidates, a limited number of full tuition scholarships are part of the proposal. In addition, newly-certified STEM teachers are provided with salary supplements while they are fulfilling their first four-year teaching commitment in a high need school district (following certification).
