Engage students from diverse backgrounds, fill a need, learn new techniques and discover worldwide opportunities.

SPU’s endorsement program requires students to successfully complete coursework which is continually being aligned with the most recent state competencies.  The program is designed to prepare teachers with the content and pedagogy skills necessary to demonstrate a positive impact on student learning.

 
  The following endorsements are now available through SPU's School of Education, Center for Professional Education:  
 
  • SPECIAL EDUCATION: Prepares teachers with the knowledge, skills and strategies necessary to help exceptional students learn.  Click here for required course list.
  • LIBRARY MEDIA: Prepares teachers to be Literacy and Media leaders in their educational settings. Click here for required course list.
  • ELL-BILINGUAL: Equips teachers with the knowledge and skills to appreciate and effectively teach diverse learners. Click here for required course list.
  • HEALTH FITNESS : Prepares teachers to implement fitness programs that promote life-long health and fitness habits in students.  Click here for required course list.
  • READING : Provides the opportunity for teachers to learn and apply current research on effective reading strategies.  Click here for required course list.

SPU also offers the following endorsements: Biology, Bilingual Education, Chemistry, Designated World Languages, Earth and Space Science, Elementary Education, English Language Arts, Environmental & Sustainability Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, History, Math, Middle Level Humanities, Middle Level Math, Middle Level Science, Music--Choral, General, Instrumental, Physics, Science, Social Studies, Theatre Arts, and Visual Arts.   New Endorsement Process: Please click here to view PESB's criteria for determining which pathway is applicable for you to add a second endorsement depending on the current endorsement(s) you hold.

Application process handled by an approved University or College for adding an endorsement in a related field:

  • Pass WEST-E* in new area
  • 5 credit course that includes on-site field experience and Pedagogy Assessment

*The Washington Educator Skills test for Endorsements (WEST-E): Washington state has replaced the Praxis II test with the WEST-E which is more closely aligned to the endorsement competencies. There are two phases for implementation of the new test, and more information is available at the test website: http://www.west.nesinc.com.
