More Guatemala information.

Business takes Aim at Global Poverty at the Bottom Billions/Bottom Line Conference in April

What Is the Role of Business in Ending Global Poverty?  The Bottom Billions/Bottom Line conference at SPU welcomes business leaders from around the nation to explore ways in which we all can change how business does business and can contribute to human flourishing. It's open to anyone interested in innovative, practical, and sustainable ways to help the world's poor — from within "big business" or smaller startups.  This important conference, April 1st and 2nd, is sponsored by the School of Business and Economics and its Center for Integrity in Business.

Find out more and get involved now.  Students interested in helping at this significant conference should contact Anna Veldt, SBE senior and member of the Bottom Billions/Bottom Line steering committee, at annaveldt@spu.edu.

Computer Resources for SBE Students

  • A flatbed scanner has been added to the computer in the northwest corner of the McKenna Commuter Lab.  Students may use it to scan document or images.  Students working on their BUS 3620 web page assignment may find it especially useful.

  • The microwave oven and hot pot, also added in the lab, are intended for use by graduate students before their evening courses, but undergraduate commuter students may also find them handy and you are welcome to use them.  Please do help us keep the lab and lounge areas clean and odor-free (no fish!). Thanks.

  • SBE students may purchase CDs for Microsoft Expression Studio 4, Microsoft VISIO 2010, or Microsoft Project 2010 for only $5 per item from Dr. Dick Sleight, 206 McKenna.  This software is available due to our SBE membership in the MSDNAA program.  Other software such as Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010 is available from CIS.

New Master of Arts in Social and Sustainable Management

The new MA-SSM degree offered by the School of Business and Economics is seeking the best recent graduates from nearly every academic discipline.  But "nearly every" does not include, in this case, business and accounting majors.  Here is a one-year applied graduate degree program in business management for business minors and students from every other major except those offered in SBE.  Many students with degrees in the arts, sciences, engineering, social sciences or other non-business disciplines face a work world dominated by the necessity for commerce and needing the tools required in business.  Adding a business component to their first credential in a 5th year of study is a smart choice for many.

Do you know a current senior or recent graduate who might be interested in the MA-SSM degreeHave them check out this new option.  This four-quarter masters degree program has a problem-based curriculum, cohort enrollment model, study abroad component to both India and China, and much more.  Help us get the word out to your friends.

Spring Quarter Course Changes

Cancelled: BUS 4661 Special Topics in Management
This course was to be taught by Dr. Daniels.  However, she was recently elected chair of the SPU Faculty Council for 2011-12 and her duties as Chair-elect this spring require her to limit her teaching this coming quarter.

Are you planning to enter the Social Venture Plan Competition? The deadline to submit your Intent to Participate form has been extended to Friday, February 18th.  Please email the completed form to Dr. Don Summers, summed@spu.edu.

Mentor Program Update

Once again, the very popular Mentor Program has filled up for this quarter. Students are reminded that graduating seniors are not allowed to participate in this program during their final quarter.

"We have met our capacity for the Mentor Program for Winter quarter.  Students can still fill out an application for the Mentor Program and save it for future use, but Banner will not allow them to submit their application at this time. (An announcement to this effect has been posted on the application page in Banner).  We will begin accepting new applications for Spring quarter consideration after Finals are over, March 19."

The SBE Undergraduate eNews is sent to SBE majors, minors and “intended majors” as recorded in Banner.
