 Advising and Registration

SBE Minors Take Note

Business Administration, Economics, and Entrepreneurship minors must email Elizabeth Gordon (eg@spu.edu) as soon as possible, to request that major restrictions be lifted from any upper division courses they plan on taking for their Minor.

Not Admitted Yet?

Upper division Business Administration, Economics, and Accounting courses are restricted to SBE Majors only. If you would like to register for one of those courses, you’ll need to email Elizabeth Gordon (eg@spu.edu) with that request and include your student ID number. She will calculate your cumulative and SBE GPAs to make sure you are on track for admission (2.85 or better). If you meet the minimum, she will allow you to register for them.

CSC 1123 or Approved Spreadsheet Waiver Still a Requirement for all SBE Majors

Many SBE intended majors continue to overlook the SBE Spreadsheet Competency requirement.  There are many ways to satisfy this requirement, but students who are otherwise ready to register for MAT 2700 Statistics for Business and Economics or ACCT 2362 Managerial Economics will be prevented from registering until this "competency requirement" is satisfied.  See the full policy here.   Most students satisfy this requirement by completing the 1-credit CSC 1123 Spreadsheets course.  Eight sections of CSC 1123 were scheduled in 2009-10 and two of these sections are available Spring quarter.

AUSBE: The Associated Undergraduate Students of Business and Economics

In honor of the late Dr. Lisa Klein Surdyk, AUSBE is hosting a fundraiser to support her family. AUSBE is collecting donations to go towards gift certificates to restaurants, movies, and other family activities. If you would like to contribute to this cause, there is a collection being taken at the SBE front desk (2nd floor, McKenna Hall) and at all AUSBE events.  With your help we can reach our goal of $200 to help them through this difficult time. Thank you for your continued prayers for her family!

Upcoming events:

  • Our next Donuts with the Dean, Thursday, March 4th, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the McKenna Conference Room.  Join Dean Van Duzer for donuts and great conversations!

  •  Finals Week = Cookie week.  Come take a break between finals to enjoy light refreshments - McKenna 2nd Floor Lobby

Reminders:

  • Feel free to contact any of the AUSBE officers if you have suggestions, comments, questions, topics for Donuts with the Dean, etc., as we are here to serve you!

  • Look for many exciting events coming Spring quarter!

4th Annual
Social Venture Plan Competition

Students from a variety of majors have been coming together to develop the idea that a sustainable business can have a social cause and be profitable! Participants for the past four years have challenged the way we do business through participating in the Social Venture Plan Competition. This year we will not only have participants from SPU but also from other universities. If you have been wondering if you should get involved, now is the time to get off the fence. Contact Dr. Don Summers for more information at summed@spu.edu. You have until March 17 to turn in your written project!  Also, if you have not turned in your Intent to Participate form, then please contact Dr. Summers now.  Full details about the SVPC are here.

If your schedule will not allow you to participate, that's OK!  Support your fellow students by following their journey on the SVPC blog!   And read what the Queen Anne & Magnolia News reported about our SVPC!

The SBE Undergraduate eNews is sent to SBE majors, minors and “intended majors” as recorded in Banner.

It is typically sent twice quarterly.  Please contact SAS to correct your major, minor, or “intended major” status
if you wish to be removed from this email list.   Your SBE Undergraduate eNews editor is Dr. Dick Sleight.
